Texas Breaks Solar Record with 33 Gigawatts Generated

Texas just proved that everything really is bigger in the Lone Star State, including its commitment to clean energy.

The state shattered its solar generation record on Saturday, producing more than 33 gigawatts of electricity from the sun for the first time. That's enough power to light up millions of homes across the state during peak daytime hours.

The milestone didn't just break Texas' own previous record set earlier this year. Energy analyst Doug Lewin pointed out that Texas now generates 54% more solar power than California, long considered the nation's renewable energy leader.

Texas has quietly become America's solar powerhouse. Last year alone, the state added about 11 gigawatts of new solar capacity, bringing its total to roughly 52 gigawatts, enough to power more than 6 million homes.
