Turkey Doubles EVs to 370,000 in One Year

Turkey just proved that rapid electric vehicle adoption isn't just possible—it's happening right now.

The country doubled its registered electric vehicles in a single year, reaching 370,591 EVs by the end of 2025. That's a 102% increase from the 183,776 recorded in 2024, according to Turkey's Statistical Institute.

Electric vehicles now make up 2.1% of Turkey's 17.37 million passenger cars, up from just 1.1% the year before. While that might sound small, the momentum tells a bigger story about where transportation is headed.

The surge comes alongside impressive growth in hybrid vehicles too. Hybrid registrations jumped 78% to reach 697,027 vehicles, now representing 4% of all passenger cars on Turkish roads.

Several forces are driving this electric revolution. Turkey's homegrown automaker Togg has energized the market since entering the scene, giving consumers a domestic option and boosting national pride in the EV transition.

The government has invested heavily in charging infrastructure, especially in cities and along major highways. That expansion has tackled one of the biggest barriers keeping people from making the switch—range anxiety.

Turkey's EV boom shows how local manufacturing, infrastructure investment, and environmental awareness can combine to accelerate clean transportation. Other developing economies are watching closely, seeing proof that electric vehicle adoption doesn't require decades of gradual change.

The environmental benefits extend beyond Turkey's borders too. Each electric vehicle produces significantly lower carbon emissions than traditional combustion engines while running quieter and more efficiently through city streets.

For Turkish families, the practical advantages are becoming clear. Lower operating costs, reduced noise pollution in neighborhoods, and the convenience of home charging are making EVs an attractive everyday choice, not just an environmental statement.

The charging network continues expanding across the country, making long-distance travel increasingly practical. What seemed impossible just a few years ago—crossing Turkey in an electric vehicle—is now a realistic option for thousands of drivers.
