UAE Launches $272M Space Cooperation Program

The United Arab Emirates is betting big on becoming a space economy powerhouse with the launch of a new $272 million international cooperation program.

Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council, announced the initiative this week. The program will fund partnerships between UAE research institutions and global counterparts to accelerate space technology development and knowledge sharing.

"The space sector remains a strategic priority for the UAE as we continue building a future economy driven by knowledge and innovation," Sheikh Hamdan said. The investment reflects the country's commitment to the National Space Strategy 2031, which aims to double returns from the space economy and increase the sector's value by 60 percent.

The timing couldn't be better. The global space economy reached $613 billion in 2024 and is projected to hit $780 billion by 2033, creating massive opportunities for countries ready to compete.

The UAE isn't starting from scratch. The country already participates in the Artemis program, contributing to infrastructure that will support sustainable human presence on the Moon. During the council meeting, officials reviewed progress on developing AI-powered satellite constellations built and operated entirely within the UAE.
