UK Adds 1,450 Ultra-Rapid EV Chargers in Infrastructure Win

Motor Fuel Group just became one of the UK's largest electric vehicle charging networks, installing more than 1,450 ultra-rapid chargers across the country. This year alone, the company added 243 new charging bays at 39 locations, making it easier for millions of drivers to power up their electric cars.

The numbers tell a story of real momentum. These chargers have already delivered enough electricity to power 250 million miles of electric travel in 2024. That's roughly 10,000 trips around the entire planet, all emissions-free.

The timing couldn't be better. More than 2.15 million fully electric cars now cruise UK roads, and electric vehicles make up over a quarter of new car sales this year. Drivers needed this infrastructure, and it's finally arriving at scale.

Motor Fuel Group is putting £400 million behind its vision, aiming for 3,000 ultra-rapid chargers across 500 locations by 2030. The company strategically placed nearly 300 charging stations at Morrisons supermarkets, where drivers can shop for groceries while their cars charge.

The convenience factor matters. Many charging sites sit next to Greggs, Pret A Manger, Burger King, Subway, and Costa locations. Drivers can grab a coffee or lunch while adding 100 miles of range in just 10 minutes at the fastest chargers.

The technology itself impresses. Chargers operate at 150kW, 300kW, and up to 400kW, meaning compatible cars can juice up faster than it takes to finish a meal. Gone are the days of anxiously waiting hours for enough charge to reach your destination.

The Ripple Effect

This infrastructure boom does more than help individual drivers. It addresses one of the biggest barriers to electric vehicle adoption: range anxiety and charging availability. When people know they can easily find fast chargers during road trips, they're more likely to make the switch from gas-powered cars.

The network now represents over 10% of the UK's entire rapid charging infrastructure, created by a single company in just a few years. That kind of private investment accelerates the country's climate goals without waiting for government-only solutions.
