UK PM Andy Burnham Crashes Wedding, Makes Couple's Day

Imagine arriving at your wedding reception only to discover the Prime Minister wants to crash your party.

That's exactly what happened to Conor and Kira Rosato at the Culloden Hotel in Cultra, County Down this Thursday. The couple had just arrived from their church ceremony when they learned UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham was landing at their venue for official meetings during his first visit to Northern Ireland as PM.

Hotel staff initially planned to keep the wedding party separate from the political visit. But when the bride and groom heard who was in the building, they asked if they could meet him.

Culloden deputy general manager Andre Joubert said the couple got excited when they learned about the Prime Minister's arrival. "They were actually really excited to hear it, and suggested the idea of a picture or two," he explained.

Burnham's team passed along the request, and the Prime Minister didn't hesitate. He took time away from his official schedule to chat with the happy couple and pose for photos alongside Northern Ireland Secretary of State Chris Bryant.

The spontaneous meet and greet turned what was already a special day into something even more memorable. "It was a lovely and unexpected thing, and made a memorable day for them even more memorable," Joubert said.
