Ukraine and Germany Launch Defense Tech Startup Program

Ukraine and Germany are teaming up to turn defense innovation into a shared mission, launching a new program that could reshape how military technology gets developed during wartime.

Defense ministers from both nations signed an agreement in Kyiv on May 11 establishing the "Brave Germany" program. The initiative will support startups and innovators working on military technology solutions, creating a bridge between cutting-edge ideas and battlefield needs.

Ukraine's Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov emphasized that Germany has become Ukraine's strongest security partner, providing roughly one-third of all international military assistance. This new program builds on that foundation by adding an innovation layer to traditional defense support.

The partnership arrives as Ukraine continues receiving critical air defense systems from Germany, including Patriot missiles and IRIS-T systems. A major contract financed by the German government will see missile deliveries begin next year, strengthening Ukraine's ability to protect its skies.
