UNC Athletes Win $9K Scholarships for Academic Excellence

Excellence in the classroom is paying off in a big way for four Tar Heels who've shown that academic achievement and athletic success go hand in hand.

The Atlantic Coast Conference selected gymnast Gwen Fink and cross country runner Trevor Paschall as Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship recipients. Each will receive $9,000 toward graduate school after demonstrating outstanding performance in both their sport and studies.

Fink, the 2025 ACC beam champion, has made Carolina gymnastics history with a career-high bars score tied for fourth all-time in the program. She's graduating this spring with plans to attend law school in the fall, bringing the same precision she shows on the balance beam to her future legal career.

Paschall has racked up multiple All-ACC Academic honors throughout his time as a Tar Heel while setting personal bests on the track. The graduating senior plans to attend optometry school next fall, trading his running spikes for a career helping people see more clearly.

Tennis star Reese Brantmeier and golfer Keaton Vo earned spots on the ACC Excellence Award List for their own impressive achievements. Brantmeier made history as just the second Tar Heel ever to win the NCAA Division I Women's Singles National Championship while earning the 2025 NCAA Elite 90 Award for highest GPA at the championships.

Vo balanced second-best scoring average on his golf team last season with Academic All-ACC honors and plans to turn professional after this season. His best collegiate round came at the Amer Ari Invitational, where he shot eight under par.
