Village Pub Raises £1,784 for Salisbury Hospice

When the doors opened at The Malet Arms in Newton Tony on July 11, nobody expected what would happen next.

Neighbors from across Wiltshire packed the village pub's garden for an afternoon that combined sunshine, live music, and community spirit. By the time the last notes faded, they had raised £1,784 for Salisbury Hospice Charity.

Pub owners Nic and Gillian Bayldon-Pritchard watched their garden fill with familiar faces and visitors from further away. The barbecue sizzled, King Card and the Real Dealers kept the music flowing, and a raffle featuring prizes from local businesses drew steady crowds.

"The weather was beautiful, the music was fantastic, and the support from both local residents and people traveling from further afield was incredible," the owners said. They credited the success to everyone who showed up, donated, or volunteered their time.

This wasn't the pub's first rodeo. Last month, The Malet Arms hosted a pig racing fundraiser (with model pigs, of course) also benefiting Salisbury Hospice Charity. The year before, their charity barbecue raised over £2,000 for Newton Tony Memorial Playground.

The Ripple Effect

What makes this story special isn't just the money raised. It's how a single pub has sparked a tradition of giving that brings an entire village together, year after year.
