400+ EV Chargers Coming to Grocery Stores Nationwide

EVgo is bringing more than 400 fast-charging stations to shopping centers anchored by major grocery stores like Kroger, Publix, Whole Foods, and Trader Joe's. The chargers will pop up in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and other states where people already shop weekly.
This isn't about creating new destinations for EV drivers. It's about meeting them where they already are.
The chargers will be installed at properties owned by Regency Centers, which operates over 480 shopping plazas nationwide. More than 80% of these centers have a major grocery store as their anchor, surrounded by restaurants, pharmacies, and coffee shops.
Each location will host up to 24 high-power fast chargers capable of delivering a full charge in as little as 15 minutes, depending on your vehicle. That's barely enough time to grab your groceries and maybe browse the pharmacy aisle.
EVgo already operates more than 150 charging stations at Regency properties, starting with their first installation in 2020. This expansion will boost Regency's total EV charging footprint by over 20%.
The Ripple Effect
About half of drivers who stop at charging stations already visit nearby stores or restaurants, turning charging time into productive errands. This partnership transforms what could be wasted waiting time into useful shopping trips.
The move also helps communities build charging infrastructure without requiring standalone charging stations that sit empty between uses. Shopping centers stay busy throughout the day, making them ideal hosts for chargers that get consistent use.
As more Americans switch to electric vehicles, having chargers at familiar places removes one of the biggest barriers to EV adoption: range anxiety and charging convenience. When your weekly grocery run doubles as your vehicle's refueling stop, going electric becomes less of a lifestyle change and more of a seamless swap.
More charging options at everyday destinations means fewer people skipping EVs because they worry about finding a plug.
