Abu Dhabi and Bayer Partner on Desert Farming Innovation

Growing fresh food in scorching desert conditions just got a major boost thanks to a new partnership between Abu Dhabi and pharmaceutical giant Bayer.

The Abu Dhabi Investment Office signed a strategic agreement with Bayer during UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's state visit to Germany. The collaboration focuses on turning one of the region's biggest challenges into an opportunity for innovation.

At the heart of the partnership are field trials designed to understand how crops perform in extreme desert and arid conditions. These experiments could unlock new agricultural techniques that help communities worldwide grow food in harsh climates where traditional farming fails.

Mohammad Ali Al Kamali signed the agreement on behalf of Abu Dhabi, while Matthias Berninger represented Bayer. Senior officials from both the UAE Ministry of Investment and Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development witnessed the historic signing.

The collaboration directly supports Abu Dhabi's ambitious HELM cluster focused on health, endurance, longevity and medicine, plus the AGWA cluster dedicated to agricultural growth and water abundance. These initiatives position the emirate as a global hub for healthcare innovation and life sciences advancement.
