Egypt just welcomed the first specialized battery storage manufacturing facility in the entire Middle East and Africa region. Chinese energy company Sungrow held a groundbreaking ceremony in August for a $50 million factory that will produce the batteries needed to store solar and wind power.
The plant will rise in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, covering about 50,000 square meters. When production begins in April 2027, it will churn out enough battery storage systems annually to power 10 gigawatt hours of clean energy.

The timing couldn't be better. That 25-year project will feed clean electricity directly into Egypt's national grid.

The company recently built a factory in Poland and already supplies major projects across the Middle East, including a 7.8 gigawatt hour battery installation in Saudi Arabia.
