Farming just got quieter, cleaner, and more affordable thanks to a new electric tractor that costs less than traditional diesel models.
GoSun, a Cincinnati company known for solar-powered appliances, is bringing the Moonrider electric tractor to North American farms for $19,995. That's thousands less than comparable gas or diesel tractors that guzzle expensive fuel and require constant maintenance.
The compact tractor targets small-scale farmers, homesteaders, and landscapers who are tired of noisy engines and rising fuel costs. Its 24 kWh battery provides about five hours of run time and recharges in just 2.5 hours on a standard 220-volt outlet.
Here's where it gets really cool: an optional solar canopy lets the Moonrider recharge using nothing but sunlight while parked or working in the field. Try doing that with your old diesel tractor.
"Small scale farming and property management have relied on noisy, costly diesel utility vehicles for far too long," said Patrick Sherwin, GoSun's founder and CEO. He calls traditional farm equipment "a jail sentence of rising fuel costs, maintenance, and software fees."

The electric tractor delivers instant torque for hauling, tilling, and mowing without belching diesel exhaust into the air farmers breathe all day. It's whisper-quiet, which creates a calmer environment for both operators and livestock.
Built-in features include a hydraulic rear power takeoff, three-point hitch, and an auxiliary power outlet that turns the tractor into a mobile power hub for electric tools and water pumps. With fewer moving parts than combustion engines, routine maintenance drops significantly.
The Ripple Effect
Beyond individual farm savings, electric tractors represent a shift toward energy independence in agriculture. Small farmers who've felt trapped by volatile fuel prices now have an escape route powered by renewable energy.
The environmental benefits extend beyond the farm gate too. Each electric tractor means cleaner air, healthier soil free from petroleum drips, and one less source of carbon emissions in rural communities.
As more farmers adopt electric equipment, the agricultural sector moves closer to true sustainability. Early adopters are proving that modern farming doesn't have to choose between productivity and environmental stewardship.
GoSun partnered with Indian manufacturer Moonrider to bring the tractors to market, with deliveries starting in early 2027. Pre-orders are open now, and local incentives may make the price even sweeter.
The Moonrider won't replace heavy-duty diesel tractors for large commercial operations, but it's perfect for small farms where an electric solution makes both economic and environmental sense.
