Ferrari Unveils Luce: 1,000-HP Electric GT With Jony Ive Design

Ferrari just proved that going electric doesn't mean losing your soul.

The Italian automaker unveiled the Luce today in Rome, ending eight years of speculation since former CEO Sergio Marchionne first promised a "prancing horse" EV in 2018. The result is a stunning achievement that marries hypercar performance with family-friendly practicality.

The numbers tell an impressive story. Four electric motors deliver over 1,000 horsepower in Boost mode, rocketing the Luce from zero to 62 mph in just 2.5 seconds. The massive 122 kWh battery provides more than 329 miles of range and charges at speeds up to 350 kW.

But power is only part of what makes the Luce special. Ferrari made the bold choice to invite Jony Ive's LoveFrom design studio to shape both the interior and exterior, marking a rare moment when Maranello opened its doors to outside creative help.

The collaboration produced a cabin that feels like art. Brushed aluminum meets Italian leather, physical switches complement circular OLED displays, and a gear-shift knob made from Corning glass features 13,000 laser-etched holes. A center screen mounted on a ball-and-socket joint can pivot to the front passenger, making every seat feel special.

Perhaps most remarkably, the Luce seats five people, a first for Ferrari. This isn't just a supercar for weekend thrills; it's a GT designed for real life, weighing just 200 pounds more than Ferrari's Purosangue SUV despite that enormous battery pack.

Ferrari even solved the electric car sound problem creatively. Instead of fake engine noise, engineers fitted an accelerometer to the rear axle that works like a guitar pickup, sensing motor vibrations and filtering them into something Ferrari's sound manager calls "an instrument."
