Ghana University Offers 50 Scholarships to Nima Students

A university in Ghana's capital is investing in human potential where it matters most, offering 50 full scholarships to students from Nima, a community long overlooked despite sitting at the heart of Accra's institutional power center.

MountCrest University College launched its "50 for 50" Scholarship Scheme in partnership with Baba Jamal, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East Constituency. The scholarships cover full tuition for law degrees, public health programs, and business administration studies including accounting and banking.

The partnership addresses a striking contradiction. Ayawaso East Constituency is home to major government institutions and corporate headquarters, yet residents have struggled to access the opportunities literally on their doorstep.

Prof. Helen Yitah, MountCrest's Rector, described the initiative as part of the university's mission to extend quality education into communities that need it most. She emphasized that building partnerships with surrounding neighborhoods isn't just good practice, it's essential to the school's identity.

Founder Kwaku Ansa-Asare, former Director of the Ghana School of Law, pointed to education as the most effective tool for breaking poverty cycles. His perspective carries weight from decades spent shaping legal education across the country.

Baba Jamal sees the scholarship program as the first step in a larger transformation. He's committed to meeting students halfway financially, ensuring talented youth who can't afford tuition still get their chance at becoming professionals who serve their community and country.
