India Gets $100B AI Data Centers Powered by Solar Energy

India just announced a massive bet on the future: $100 billion worth of artificial intelligence data centers running entirely on renewable energy.

The Adani Group revealed plans to build what will become the world's largest integrated data center network by 2035. These aren't ordinary facilities. Every server, every processor, every cooling system will run on solar and wind power.

The project aims to create 5 gigawatts of AI-ready computing capacity across the country. That's enough to power millions of advanced AI systems while producing zero carbon emissions.

Chairman Gautam Adani calls it more than just infrastructure. It's positioning India to compete with tech giants in America and China, but with a cleaner approach from day one.

The company already operates 2 gigawatts of data center capacity and has major partnerships lined up. Google is building a gigawatt-scale AI campus in Visakhapatnam. Microsoft is developing projects in Hyderabad and Pune. More technology companies are joining conversations for additional sites.

The Ripple Effect

This investment creates waves far beyond technology. The data centers will draw power from Adani Green Energy's massive Khavda renewable project, which already has 10 gigawatts operational and plans for 30 gigawatts total.

An additional $55 billion will expand India's renewable energy portfolio, including huge battery storage systems to keep everything running when the sun sets. New transmission networks will carry that clean power across the country.

The plan also reduces India's dependence on foreign suppliers. Adani will partner with domestic manufacturers to produce transformers, inverters, power electronics and cooling systems right in India.

Cable landing stations at Adani's ports will connect these facilities to the Americas, Europe, Africa and Asia with lightning-fast speeds. India won't just participate in the AI revolution. It will become a hub.

The project promises thousands of jobs in construction, renewable energy, technology and manufacturing. Rural areas hosting solar farms will see economic growth. Cities with data centers will attract tech talent and investment.

By 2035, India could be running some of the world's most powerful AI systems on some of the world's cleanest energy, proving that technological progress and environmental responsibility can grow together.
