India Launches Heaviest Satellite Into Perfect Orbit

India's space agency ISRO successfully launched the country's heaviest satellite into orbit on Friday, marking another giant leap forward for the nation's growing space capabilities.

The GSLV-F17 rocket lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, carrying the 2,367 kilogram Advanced Earth Observation Satellite-05 (EOS-05) into its intended orbit with perfect precision. ISRO chief V Narayanan confirmed the satellite's health is "perfectly alright" after reaching space.

This launch represents more than just another mission. Once EOS-05 becomes operational, it will be India's first dedicated imaging satellite from geosynchronous orbit, providing crucial strategic data for the country across visible, infrared, multispectral, and hyperspectral bands.

The mission showcased the technical prowess of India's Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle program. This was the 19th flight of the GSLV rocket, demonstrating the reliability and consistency of India's homegrown space technology.

Narayanan credited the success to teamwork across ISRO, industrial partners, and the academic community. "This success is the culmination of the hard work of the entire ISRO team along with our industrial partners and academia," he said at the space center immediately after the successful injection.

India's achievement strengthens its position as a global space power and opens new possibilities for Earth observation capabilities. The advanced imaging technology aboard EOS-05 will serve multiple purposes, from disaster management to environmental monitoring, benefiting millions.

The success energizes ISRO's ambitious plans ahead. The space agency is targeting six more launches before the end of the current financial year, building momentum in India's space program.

Minister of State for Space Jitendra Singh praised the achievement as "another giant leap for India in Space," highlighting how the country continues scaling new heights in space exploration.
