By April 2010, the first cubs were born. T1 produced four cubs, followed months later by T2's litter of four more. Two additional tigresses joined the programme in 2011, and the population began growing naturally.

Every relocated tiger wore a radio collar, allowing rangers to monitor their movements 24/7. Teams tracked breeding patterns, territorial behavior, and dispersal to ensure the animals adapted safely to their new home.

The Ripple Effect

The recovery went beyond simply moving tigers between parks. The Ken River, flowing through Panna's center, provided reliable water sources and natural corridors where prey animals thrived. The reserve's plateaus and grassy meadows created perfect hunting grounds that supported high densities of sambar, chital, and nilgai.

Scientists say the success demonstrates how connected habitats, healthy forests, and abundant prey all work together. Conservation biologist Dr. Raghu Chundawat notes that Panna's dry forest landscape requires tigers to have territories three to four times larger than those in denser forests.

From zero breeding tigers in 2009, Panna reached 54 tigers by 2019. UNESCO recognized the achievement in 2020 by including the reserve in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.

Today, around 80 tigers call Panna home. The seven translocated tigers have produced more than 80 cubs over the years, proving that thoughtful conservation can reverse even the most devastating losses.
