Israel Launches Free Accelerator for Autism Tech Startups

Getting real users to test healthcare technology is one of the hardest challenges facing startups. Now, an Israeli nonprofit is opening the doors to one of the sector's largest communities.

ALUT, the Israeli Society for Children and Adults with Autism, just launched ALUTech, a free accelerator specifically for autism technology startups. The organization is offering something most early companies can only dream of: direct access to tens of thousands of potential users.

The three-month program will support 10 startups with personalized mentoring from specialists at ALUT's Autism Center. Participants get biweekly meetings with clinical experts, structured pilot opportunities, and real-time feedback from autistic people and their families.

What makes this accelerator different is what it doesn't take. There are no fees, no equity requirements, and no intellectual property transfers. ALUT is betting that better technology for the autism community is worth more than financial returns.

The program focuses on three areas where families say help is desperately needed. These include adapting physical spaces for sensory sensitivities, detecting emotional distress early, and building tools that support social communication.

The timing matters. According to Israel's National Insurance data, approximately 68,000 children in the country have been diagnosed with autism, with diagnoses rising 18% to 20% every year. Globally, the World Health Organization estimates 78 million people are on the autism spectrum.

The Ripple Effect

ALUT brings 50 years of clinical expertise to the table, along with relationships that startups would take years to build on their own. Wix is hosting entrepreneurship workshops at its campus, while the program's volunteer advisory board includes executives from Lemonade, Apple, Google, and Twitter.

The accelerator isn't limited to companies already focused on autism. Startups with existing technologies that could be adapted for autistic users are welcome too, potentially unlocking solutions hiding in plain sight.

Registration opened July 21, with the first cohort launching soon. For entrepreneurs who've been trying to break into healthcare and assistive technology without the right connections, this could be the door that finally opens.
