Kentucky EV Drivers Save Big as Gas Hits $4 a Gallon

While most Kentucky drivers wince at $4 per gallon gas prices, Mike Proctor hasn't felt the pinch in 14 years.

Proctor switched to an electric vehicle in 2012, and with gas prices climbing amid global tensions, his decision keeps paying bigger dividends. "It becomes less and less expensive for us because we don't have to buy that gas," he said.

According to AAA, crude oil prices remain high even after a ceasefire announcement. But for EV owners across the Bluegrass State, fluctuating international conflicts don't dictate their daily commute costs.

Proctor, who advocates for electric vehicles through EVOLVEKY, points out an often overlooked benefit. "Good for the planet, they're good for your wallet, and if you think about it, who's ever fought a war over electricity?" he said.

The Bright Side

Kentucky's EV charging infrastructure is growing in ways that make the switch easier than ever. The state now has about 165 charging locations, and 90% of them are free to use.

Proctor recommends home chargers for maximum convenience. When people ask how long charging takes, he tells them eight seconds—the time to plug it in before bed, just like a phone.
