LA Galaxy Star Brings Nutrition Partnership to Ghana Academy
Ghanaian footballer Joseph Paintsil is teaming up with Herbalife to give young players at his academy access to nutrition education and healthy living programs. The partnership extends his LA Galaxy club's nutrition support back to grassroots football in his home country.
Young footballers in Ghana are getting a major boost in their journey to professional sports, and it comes with something many academies overlook: proper nutrition education.
LA Galaxy forward Joseph Paintsil has partnered with Herbalife Ghana to bring structured nutrition programs to JP Academy, the football training center he founded to develop young talent. The 26-year-old Ghanaian international announced the collaboration at a press briefing in Accra, where he emphasized that world-class athletes need more than just technical skills.
Under the agreement, Herbalife Ghana will serve as the Official Nutrition Partner of JP Academy and its affiliated club teams. Young players will receive education on fueling their bodies, staying hydrated, and recovering properly after training and matches.
"At JP Academy, our aim is to give young footballers a professional environment where they can grow both as players and as individuals," Paintsil explained. The partnership builds on his existing relationship with Herbalife through LA Galaxy, where the nutrition company already supports the MLS team.
Clarence Amenyah, Senior Manager for Herbalife Ghana, said the initiative focuses on education, sports development, and nutrition for young people. The company has operated in Ghana since 2011 and sees this as part of its commitment to long-term community empowerment projects.

The partnership kicked off with a meaningful gesture. Paintsil and the Herbalife Ghana team visited Potter's Village in Dodowa, a facility caring for vulnerable children, where they donated nutrition products and essential supplies.
The Ripple Effect
This collaboration represents more than just nutrition shakes and training tips. By bringing professional-level support to grassroots football, the partnership creates pathways for young Ghanaian athletes who might not otherwise access this knowledge.
The program will include regular training sessions, nutrition workshops, and community outreach activities throughout the year. Coaches at JP Academy will work directly with Herbalife to design comprehensive team nutrition programs tailored to young athletes' needs.
"I urge young players to play with passion, discipline and fairness," Paintsil told academy players and volunteers at the launch event. He acknowledged the often unnoticed work of coaches and volunteers whose dedication makes youth development possible.
Both parties stressed this is a long-term commitment, not a quick publicity campaign. The goal is to produce players who excel both on and off the pitch, equipped with the nutrition knowledge and healthy habits that professional athletes need.
With the right guidance and resources, Ghanaian youth football is gaining the tools to compete at international levels while building healthier communities along the way.
