Lenovo Unveils First Saudi-Made Laptop in Riyadh

Saudi Arabia just took a giant leap into the future of technology manufacturing, and it's happening in Riyadh right now.

Lenovo unveiled the first laptop ever manufactured in Saudi Arabia at LEAP 2025, marking a historic moment for the Kingdom's tech ambitions. The device rolled off production lines at Lenovo's new Riyadh facility, representing years of investment in local talent and infrastructure.

This isn't just about one laptop. The facility will begin mass production in late 2025, becoming the first Lenovo site globally to produce the company's entire product portfolio under one roof. That includes PCs, desktops, Motorola smartphones, and servers.

The real story here is people. Lenovo partnered with ALAT and Saudi government agencies to train the first cohort of Saudi engineers at global manufacturing facilities. These professionals returned home equipped to build cutting-edge technology on their own soil.

"This announcement is proof of what can be achieved when long-term investment, local talent, and ambitious national goals come together," said Tareq Alangari, Lenovo's Senior Vice President for the Middle East, Turkey and Africa. The company also established its META Regional Headquarters in Riyadh and recently appointed Dr. Rabeah Alzaidy to lead research and development initiatives in the Kingdom.

This manufacturing milestone sends ripples far beyond one factory floor. Saudi Arabia now joins Lenovo's network of more than 30 manufacturing sites across 11 countries, positioning the Kingdom as a strategic player in global tech supply chains.

The facility creates hundreds of skilled jobs in engineering, advanced manufacturing, and emerging technologies. More importantly, it builds lasting capability that stays in Saudi Arabia for generations, supporting the nation's Vision 2030 goals to diversify the economy beyond oil.

Dr. Muhammad Aldawood, Acting CEO of ALAT, emphasized the partnership's long-term vision: "The capability we build together stays in the Kingdom for the years ahead." That means knowledge transfer, research opportunities, and career paths for thousands of young Saudis entering the tech sector.
