Mexican Growers Make 15,000-Pound Guacamole World Record

When you harvest a record number of avocados, there's only one logical next step: make a record-breaking amount of guacamole.

More than 1,000 growers in Michoacan, Mexico gathered at the annual Avocado Festival in Tancitaro to do exactly that. Working together, they created a gargantuan bowl of guacamole weighing in at just under 15,000 pounds, with Guinness World Record officials on hand to make it official.

The massive dish took only two and a half hours to prepare. Thousands of visitors and local producers then shared the fresh guacamole together, celebrating the economic backbone of their region.

The Avocado Festival has run for 13 years in Tancitaro, transforming the small municipality into a vibrant four-day celebration of its signature export. Beyond the world record attempt, families enjoyed showcases of the latest breakthroughs in sustainable and efficient avocado production.

"This moment belongs to the thousands of Michoacán families whose livelihoods are rooted on avocado farms," said Raul E. Martínez Pulido, president of the Association of Avocado Exporting Producers and Packers of Mexico.

The record was personal for Tancitaro. The nearby municipality of Periban stole their previous world record in 2022, and local growers were eager to reclaim their crown.

Michoacan's avocado industry keeps growing, with projections showing 2.5 billion pounds headed to the United States in 2026 alone. International partners travel from around the world to this avocado hub, creating jobs and economic opportunity for thousands of farming families.
