Nigeria Invests $14M in New Specialist Hospital

Thousands of Nigerians in Nasarawa State will soon have better access to advanced healthcare thanks to a major government investment in a new medical facility.

Governor Abdullahi Sule signed legislation this week establishing the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Akwanga, committing 6 billion naira to upgrade the facility to match the state's other advanced medical centers. The hospital will serve the Nasarawa South senatorial zone, part of the governor's plan to ensure every region has a top-tier healthcare facility.

The funding comes from 17 billion naira the state received from the World Bank, which recognized Nasarawa for making it easier to do business there. That international vote of confidence is now translating directly into healthcare improvements for everyday citizens.

The new hospital fills an important gap in the state's healthcare system. The original Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital in Lafia was donated to the federal government to become a teaching hospital for Federal University of Lafia. Rather than leave one region without specialized care, state leaders chose to establish a new facility bearing the same name.

The hospital honors Dr. Dalhatu Araf, whose work transformed healthcare across Nasarawa and neighboring Plateau State. By naming the new facility after him, the state ensures his legacy of medical service continues helping future generations.
