Scientists Find New Viper Species Hidden in Himalayan Mist

Deep in the tropical rainforests of Tibet's Medog County, scientists have uncovered a venomous pit viper that's been mistaken for another species for years.

The new snake, named Ovophis medogensis, lives in mountainous forests between 2,300 and 5,900 feet above sea level. It sports a distinctive dark brown back covered in butterfly-shaped blotches, an orange stripe behind each eye, and telltale white spots running all the way down its tail.
