Six-Ton Ramses II Statue Uncovered in Egypt Temple

A colossal statue of one of ancient Egypt's most powerful pharaohs has emerged from the ground after more than 3,000 years, reminding us that extraordinary discoveries still await beneath our feet.

Excavation teams working at Tell al-Faraoun in Sharqiya Governorate have unearthed a six-ton statue of King Ramses II within the walls of an ancient temple. The discovery came after 18 months of careful digging across three acres of historically significant land.

Rizk Diab, Director General of Antiquities for East Delta and Canal Cities, confirmed the statue is currently undergoing detailed restoration work. Experts are strengthening the stone, removing salt deposits, and carefully revealing the artistic details that made Ramses II's reign legendary.

The site itself tells a story spanning thousands of years. Studies show it contains multiple temples from different periods, including one from Ramses II's reign and another from King Ahmose II, with possible additions from the Ptolemaic period.

The excavation team isn't working by chance. They're using a precise scientific methodology, dividing the site into a grid and employing stratified excavation techniques to uncover artifacts layer by layer without damaging them.

This isn't the first treasure the site has revealed. Archaeologists previously discovered a complete stela of King Ptolemy III at the same location, known as the Decree of Canopus.

The Ripple Effect

The discovery showcases how modern archaeology combines patience, science, and dedication to preserve human history for future generations. The Museum Display Committee of the Supreme Council of Antiquities will decide where to display the statue, whether in major Egyptian museums or at the Tell Basta Museum in nearby Zagazig.

Each artifact uncovered at Tell al-Faraoun adds another piece to the puzzle of ancient Egyptian civilization. The work happening there demonstrates that with the right approach and commitment, we can continue learning from cultures that thrived millennia ago.
