Sullivan BOCES Students Earn Honor Roll Recognition

Students at Sullivan BOCES Career & Technical Education Center in Liberty, New York just proved that hands-on learning and academic success go hand in hand.

Over 150 students earned spots on the honor roll and high honor roll this marking period while completing rigorous training in fields like welding, culinary arts, healthcare, and construction. These aren't traditional classroom students sitting at desks all day. They're learning real-world skills that lead directly to careers and college programs.

The CTE Center offers 15 different career pathways, from animal science to public safety services. Students split their time between academic coursework and practical training, learning to wire electrical systems, style hair in real salons, or prepare restaurant-quality meals.

Executive Principal Jeffrey Molusky celebrated the achievement with heartfelt praise. "Finishing the school year strong is a testament to your hard work, determination, and commitment to excellence," he told the students.

The honor roll included students from multiple school districts across Sullivan County. Welding led all programs with 50 students recognized, followed by health occupations with 19 students. Even smaller programs like animal science and broadcasting saw multiple students earn academic honors.

The Ripple Effect

These students are challenging outdated stereotypes about vocational education. For decades, career and technical programs were seen as alternatives for students who struggled academically. This honor roll tells a different story.

Today's CTE students are choosing practical skills without sacrificing academic achievement. They're graduating with industry certifications, college credits, and proven abilities that employers value immediately.

The model is working beyond Sullivan County too. Career and technical education programs nationwide are seeing increased enrollment as students and families recognize the value of combining academics with marketable skills.
