Waymo Opens Robotaxi Service to 10,000 Miami Riders

Miami just became the latest city where you can hop into a driverless car and get where you need to go, no human driver required.

Waymo opened its robotaxi service to the public in Miami today, giving access to approximately 10,000 people who signed up for the waitlist. The self-driving vehicles will cruise through popular neighborhoods including the Design District, Wynwood, Brickell, and Coral Gables across a 60-square-mile area.

The cars will stick to local roads for now, avoiding highways until later this year. South Beach and Miami International Airport aren't included yet, but the company plans to expand to more destinations as the service grows.

Waymo has been quietly testing its autonomous vehicles in Miami since 2019, learning the city's unique traffic patterns and preparing for this moment. The company formally announced plans for the service at the end of 2024.

An African mobility company called Moove will manage Waymo's Miami fleet. Backed by Uber and valued at $750 million, Moove brings fleet management expertise to help keep the robotaxis running smoothly.
